What is Circumcision?

The surgical removal of the foreskin from the penis is called Circumcision. It has its roots in various traditional & cultural practices. In many cultures this practice is followed a few days after the birth of the child, like in the case of Jews, it is 8 days after birth.

What is foreskin?

The foreskin is a delicate layer of skin covering the tip of the penis. Every male individual is born with a foreskin. Adult men who undergo circumcision at an early age may not have a foreskin. An individual can pull the foreskin back from the head of the penis to reveal the external urethral opening. A specialist must be contacted for any issue related to the foreskin.

What is the procedure of Circumcision?

What are the post-circumcision care procedures?

In babies -After the circumcision, the tip of the baby’s penis may get sore, and the penis itself may look red and swollen. This is normal and should go away on its own in a few days. ​-Leave your infant's dressing (lubricant gauze) for at least 24 hours after the circumcision. -While your child is healing, apply a petroleum-based ointment (Vaseline) to the end of the penis after every bath and with each diaper change. -Keep the diaper fastened loosely. -It will take 7-10 days for the penis to heal completely. In adults -Wear loose underwear -Clean the wound every day for 7-10 days. -Sexual activity like intercourse should be avoided for at least 4 weeks.
